Beauport Park 50th Anniversary Tournament

50th Anniversary Tournament

The golf course at Beauport Park first opened its doors to the golfing public on the 1st July 1973 when it was officially opened with a driving in ceremony conducted by the town’s Mayor Darker

50 years later and the current management team hosted an open competition for current, past and prospective members which was headline sponsored by Battle based Douglas Rowe Financial Services.

Roger Hyder, Managing Director of Beauport Park Golf & Country Club said “The club has gone through the mill a bit in recent years but it has come a long way since we took over nearly 5 years ago and we were very keen to recognise this special landmark in the club’s history” he added “We were looking for some local companies to help celebrate the day with tee sponsorship etc but when we approached Douglas Rowe they didn’t hesitate to offer to put their name to the whole day”

Douglas of Douglas Rowe said “I was delighted and honoured to be able to sponsor the event. As a local growing up in Hastings I know very well how the club holds a special place in the community and, as Roger has mentioned, the club has been through some turbulent times, and I hoped that the day would remind people of just how special this club is”

The day consisted of Teams of four playing 18 hole better ball stableford with the best 2 scores on every hole to count.
The Club ran 2 separate competitions on the day, one for those with CDH handicaps and the other for those with society handicaps. There were team prizes as well as numerous on-course prizes.
The day included 18 holes, a soft drink at the halfway house and a BBQ lunch supplied by the New Inn at Westfield in a marquee outside the pro shop.

Hyder finished by saying “We really wanted to make the day a special one and judging from the feedback we achieved that!"

The current freeholder of the estate is looking to invest heavily in the property with a new Clubhouse and driving range with added accommodation for golfers and families wanting to stay and play in the area. The Club hopes to be able to announce its plans very soon following the completion of ecology and viability reports.
